BDIC 397A, Intro to Entrepreneurship, 1 credit.  Tuesday, 5:30, E-Lab 2.

BDIC 397B, Leadership and Networking, 2 credits. Thursdays, 5:30, E-Lab 2.

BDIC students who take both classes can count it toward the BDIC concentration (if it is relevant to the substance of the concentration).

These classes have been very popular with students.  The emphasis is on learning to start your own organization and learning how to form a team to make it happen.  For more information, including class schedules, see the EI website.

]]>The Medicine Hunterhttp://www.designmymajor.com/news/2009/11/25/the-medicine-hunter.htmlBDIC2009-11-25T21:36:36ZChris Kilham is known as the Medicine Hunter.  He travels to South American forests and discovers plants with medicinal value.  Chris also teaches botany at UMass Amherst.  He graduated from UMass in the 1970s with a BDIC degree.

The Daily Collegian just ran a nice article about how Chris took a group of students to the jungles of the Peruvian amazon.  Read the article here.

Today, she has a fine job with one of the nation's largest suppliers of outdoor adventure learning programs for teens.  She is living out her concentration, her college dream.

On November 17, the Entrepreneurship Initiative held its Fall Executive Summary competition.  Students from many majors and withi many different ideas for starting their own businesses competed for cash prizes.  The judges were local entrepreneurs and investors.  

Erin won the competition with her vision for a new clothing line called Undercover Lady Lover.

The Entrepreneurship Initiative is a program operating through BDIC.  Its goal is to help student develop their innovations into successful business and non-profit organizations.
